What is interior styling and how is it different than interior design?
Interior design involves more wholesale changes to your space while interior styling is about working with what you already have with some strategic adjustments to elevate the overall space.
Interior design will often include purchasing all new furniture & lighting, installing new flooring & tile, building millwork & cabinets, and more.
Styling is more focused on the arrangement and curation of items in your home like editing a bookshelf, styling a coffee table, layering textiles, and rearranging art.
Styling is about telling your story through the objects, layers, and arrangement of your space, by establishing design principles and honing your personal style.
Things I can source while styling your home:
Decorative light fixtures including table lamps, chandeliers, ceiling lights, and sconces
Wall art, mirrors, and wallpaper
Bedding, throw pillows, and other soft goods
Tableware including dinnerware, glassware, flatware, table linens, and serveware
Decorative items like sculptures, vases, trays, books, and other small objets
Vintage accent furniture and objects
What should you bring to the consult?
A Pinterest board! Collect images of things that you love. They don’t have to be of interiors - the subject matter can be fashion, flora, art, objects, landscapes, and more.
Images of your space. We need to see what our starting point is. Your photos should be well lit, preferably in daylight, and show multiple angles.
An idea of budget. You should consider what you’d like to spend on the project - but it doesn’t have to be a lot.
Anything else you’d like to share!
Services requiring drawing sets, material sourcing for permanent installation (stone, tile, trim, flooring, etc.), appliance selection, and millwork design are typically not included in my offerings. I can recommend local interior designers for projects in need of these services.
